How to select a dental operating light for equipment integration

A decision framework for equipment buyers, distributors, and dental chair manufacturers.

Direct answer

Select a dental operating light by matching the required illumination and color characteristics with the dental unit’s power, control, connector, arm, and mounting interface. Confirm the exact model documentation and target-market requirements before ordering.

02

Review light performance as a system

Illuminance is only one part of the selection. Compare the published working range, color-temperature modes, color rendering, light spot, adjustment method, and positioning needs. If a unit or test condition is missing, treat the value as unconfirmed.

Buyer check

Ask for the test distance and unit whenever an illuminance or light-spot figure is not fully defined.

03

Match electrical input and controls

The current manufacturer parameter sheet lists 12–24 V AC input for the eight standard light-head models. It does not establish DC compatibility or an input rating for custom stands, viewers or other assemblies. Confirm rated power, the available dental-unit supply, wiring and control behavior for the exact configuration.

Touch, manual switch, sensor, brightness memory, and display functions are model-dependent. CX104 and CX106 use a single white-light configuration; their listed temperature options are not automatically switchable modes. Compare the current model specification reference and confirm the controls on the selected sample.

04

Resolve the mechanical interface

Selected products list 22 mm or 26 mm connector shafts. That is not the complete integration definition. Arm reach, rotation, load, cable path, connector geometry, and installation clearances still need to be reviewed.

For custom lamp arms and brackets, provide drawings or measured interfaces rather than relying only on a dental chair model name.

05

Verify documentation by model and market

Certification, registration, test records, packaging labels, and instructions can depend on the model and destination. Request current documents for the exact product and do not accept unrelated certificates as substitutes.

Build a useful buyer brief

  • Company and destination market
  • Product link or intended light-head configuration
  • Dental unit model and available electrical input
  • Connector and mounting-interface dimensions
  • Required controls and color-temperature modes
  • Estimated quantity, sample need, and timing
  • Documentation and packaging requirements

Frequently asked questions

01Which specification should be checked first?

Start with the target dental unit: confirm available input, mounting interface, connector size, arm geometry, and the clinical illumination requirement together.

02Is a higher illuminance number always better?

Not by itself. The working range, uniformity, light spot, color rendering, heat management, controls, positioning, and intended workflow also matter.

03Why must certification be confirmed by model?

Documentation can apply to a specific model, configuration, or market. A claim for one product should not automatically be applied to another.
